Cricket odds & markets: a working vocabulary

Low-volume but high-value queries like cricket betting odds need definitions more than tip sheets. Here is a field dictionary for lines you will meet on a modern sportsbook.

Decimal odds

Most online boards in this product family show decimal odds. A price of 2.00 implies even money on a successful single (stake × 2.00 returned including stake, before any rules). Lower decimals mean the book prices that outcome as more likely—not that it is “safe.”

Market families

Family Plain meaning Watch-out
Match result / 1X2-style Who wins (draw rare in limited overs; more relevant in Test contexts) Confirm if “draw” is offered
Totals (runs / overs) Over/under a line set by the book Innings vs match total—read the label
Handicap / Asian handicap Virtual run or wicket head-start Settlement rules differ by line type
Team / double chance Broader win coverage combinations Lower odds, still not risk-free
Player / micro markets Batter, bowler, next wicket style lines when listed High variance; data delays matter live
Session / period Part of a day or innings block Commoner in longer formats

Sportsbook UIs also surface accumulators (parlays). Bonus wagering often requires min legs and min odds—that is bonus law, not market definition (see the bonus desk in this monorepo).

Long-term / tournament

Snapshot product areas include long-term / antepost lists and “bet on big tournaments” style outrights (league winners, etc.). These prices move over weeks; early “value” stories can still lose to squad news.
